SMF Archive is both a preservation project and a community site. This page is split into two parts: rules you must follow, and recommended guidelines for taking part in the community.
If you believe something breaks the rules, please use the report option on a level, profile, comment, or other content when it is available. For issues that cannot be reported directly, or if you need to share more context, please visit our Contact page.
These are required. Content or accounts that break these rules may be removed, limited, and/or moderated.
Treat other users with respect. Harassment, discrimination, threats, impersonation, targeted insults, blatant trolling, disrespect based on status, rioting, or attempts to cause drama/chaos are not allowed. Extensive religious or political topics are also prohibited. These rules also apply to content inside levels.
Do not post sexually explicit, excessively graphic, hateful, malicious, shock-focused, or privacy-invasive content. Avoid flashing images, jumpscares, or anything that could create an unsafe browsing or playing experience.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or use interactive site features. Accounts found to be owned by users under 13 will be permanently banned.
Do not spam uploads, comments, ratings, reports, invites, follows, or staff requests. Do not use bots, duplicate accounts, or repeated low-effort activity to disrupt the site.
Do not exploit site bugs, bypass privacy settings, evade bans, attack the server, upload harmful code, or attempt to access another user's account or private content.
Rate levels honestly. Do not spam high or low ratings, pressure others to change their rating, or retaliate with ratings or comments.
Do not steal levels or other creative work from other users. Reuploads are allowed only when you have permission or when they are being preserved with proper credit. Remakes of official Nintendo levels are not allowed either unless the gameplay is meaningfully transformed from the original.
Legacy records are part of the archive's history. Do not submit false corrections, invent authorship or dates, remove valid source details, or use archive tools to rewrite history. Share reliable context when you can.
Uploads should be related to supported Super Mario Flash games and compatible formats. Broken, unrelated, harmful, stolen, or intentionally unusable uploads may be removed.
Do not evade moderation decisions or harass staff over them. Do not upload content that violates copyright rules. Copyright concerns can be sent through the DMCA / Copyright page.
These guidelines describe ways to give better feedback, handle ratings well, and help preserve content.
Getting a rating you were not looking for on a level you made can be disappointing, but it can also be useful feedback. Try to understand why someone rated the level that way, especially if they explained their reason in a comment.
Level design takes trial and error. A low rating does not mean a level is worthless; it may point out something that can be improved.
Comments are most useful when they explain what worked, what did not, and what could be improved. If you see someone struggling with level design, helpful advice is better than insults or jokes at their expense.
When sharing information about old levels or profiles, include source links, screenshots, dates, archive notes, or other details that explain where the information came from.
